Away from Tanzania’s busy Northern Circuit, Chem Chem Lodge offers a secluded, laid back experience.

Chem Chem is the embodiment of the owners’ love for Africa. Fabia Bausch and Nicolas Negre longed to escape the constraints of their lives in Europe for the freedom and wilderness of Africa. Eventually, they both took the plunge and started over. They opened Chem Chem Lodge, which lies on the eastern edge of Lake Manyara and on the border of the exclusive Burunge Wildlife Management Area. With the lodge and its sister bush camps, they have achieved their goal of creating a coexistence between the tourism industry and local nomadic pastoralists. (Opened: 2011; Tents: 8)
